Wisdom That Transforms

WCS#140

Jam. 1:5-8 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally & without reproach, & it will be given to him. 6But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven & tossed by the wind. 7For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

Jam. 1:5-8 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally & without reproach, & it will be given to him.

SO, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY UNWISE DECISIONS BEING MADE?

Christians can learn wisdom every day… am I a wiser Christian today than I was last week?

Does the Wisdom of God which direct my choices; resulting in a deeper Faith?

The first step to wisdom is to realize we are not always instinctively wise: do I search my heart for God’s Wisdom?

Jesus said, “ask, & it will be given to you; seek, & you will find; knock, & it will be opened to you (Luke. 11:9).”

Jam. 1:5-8 “If any lacks wisdom, …let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven & tossed by the wind.

How am I doing with Faith-Asking prayer?

What can I do & how do I approach my need to increase my prayer life?

Gal. 2:20 is a mini testimony/explanation of how Paul became a Man of Faith & faithfulness… “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; & the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me & gave Himself for me.”

Am I making progress in the transition from Faith to faithfulness as Paul describes in Gal. 2:20?

Challenge & encouragement & Prayer

Rom. 12:2, “do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good & acceptable & perfect will of God.”

Prayer Guide: Lord Jesus, help us know how unwise we are, so we can “be transformed by the renewing of our mind.”

Grow us Lord, step by baby step, throughout our lives as we seek You, Your Word & Your Wisdom.     Amen.

Have a great day; & enjoy the Journey!

Pulled Aside by Jesus

WCS#139

Mark 7:32-35 “They brought to Him one who was deaf & had an impediment in his speech… He took him aside… & said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35Immediately his ears were opened, & the impediment of his tongue was loosed, & he spoke plainly.”

Mark 7:32-35 “They brought to Him one who was deaf & had an impediment in his speech…

I love the image in this passage… Friends brought a man in need to Jesus…

Who are we good enough friends with… to bring them to Jesus?

Mark 7:32-35 “Jesus took him aside… & said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”

This deaf & speechless man was taken aside by Jesus.

The crowd was watching: some with care, others with curiosity… Can you imagine what that must have been like; to spend time with Jesus alone?

Does Jesus make time for us as individuals?

How can we or do we make effort to get alone with God?

Do we have friends that encourage us to spend time with Jesus?

What could be better, or more life changing, than personal time & experience with Jesus?

2 Cor. 6:17 & 1 Pet. 1:23 reflect this idea of personal time & experience with Jesus: “born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever… Therefore “Come out from among them & be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, & I will receive you.”

We are physically born as individuals: we must also be Born Again individually.

In personal times with Jesus, the flesh looses its grip on the soul:

Can we set a pattern that establishes a lifelong Faith Journey:

How do we come apart from the influence of the world & learn to commune with Jesus.

Lord Jesus, Silence the cacophony of distractions around us so we can hear Your Living Word & speak with newness of Faith.        Amen.

The Search

WCS#137

Psalm. 139:23,24 “Search me, O God, & know my heart; Try me, & know my anxieties; & see if there is any wicked way in me, & lead me in the way everlasting.”     This plea is the real McCoy, when it comes to a Christian’s prayer.  It encompasses the full range of our soul’s need in just a few well chosen words.

Psalm. 139:23,24 “Search me, O God, & know my heart;

Big question: am I afraid of God’s close searchings?

Do I self-examine?

Do I desire God’s Wisdom & His daily Guidance?

Psalm. 139:23,24 “Search me, O God, & know my heart; Try me, & know my anxieties; & see if there is any wicked way in me, & lead me in the way everlasting.”

Do I ask Jesus to “Try me?”

Have I surrendered to Jesus, His Word & Wisdom?

Do I want to be a Christian more than I want to please my own flesh?

Psalm. 139:23,24 “lead me in the way everlasting.”

Have I fully embraced the Lord Jesus?  …”Lead me in the Way Everlasting”

Have I accepted God’s Word as Absolute Authority?

Isa. 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Have I prayed; Lord Jesus,  let Your Word saturate my life & transform my flesh to Christlikeness.        Amen.

The Word, Transgenerational

WCS#136

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, & shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, & when you rise up.”

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.

Do I live a Word centered life?

Does the Word affect my heart when I read or hear it?   How?

Does the Word, naturally make me consciousness of God’s presence?

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.”

Is my daily atmosphere filled with Family, Friends & God?

Have I let the Word transform my thinking?

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus (Phi. 2:5).”

Do I share God’s Word & His Love with my nearest & dearest?

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “these words… shall be in your heart. You shall teach them… & shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, & when you rise up.”

Teaching is not always formal… it’s a flow of sample & example.

Yes, I read the Bible but, do I make it more effective by living out it’s principles in daily decisions, choices, obedience & personal discipline to the Word?

“When we sit, walk, rise up & lie down” is not Sunday Morning religion… It is a picture of never ending “hunger & thirst for righteousness (Mat. 5:6).”

Is Jesus & His Word the centerpiece in my circle of our life?

Is my circle a place where Jesus is always welcome & His Presence is evident?

Spirit Assisted Prayer

WCS#135

Rom. 8:26,27 “the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Do I recognize the times that I am Spiritually weak?

Do I pray when I don’t know what to say?

Can a prayer be a Faith-Prayer if we’re not sure of what God wills for the situation?

Am I always confident the Jesus is praying for me?

Do I really want the Will of God as the main influence in my life?

Heb. 7:25 “He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He (Jesus ) always lives to make intercession for them.”

I have come to God, but… In my weak moments, do I remember, we are never helpless; that God is always on the Throne & in Control.

When we are at our wits end; when we are frustrated, discouraged or on the verge of defeat, do I still Believe that Jesus is intervening on my behalf.

A timeless declaration:

Deu 32:3-4 “I proclaim the name of the Lord: Ascribe greatness to our God. 4He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, the God of truth & without injustice; Righteous & upright is He.”

If we Believe; how does this passage affect our thinking?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You that in our weakness, You are strong; in our stumbling, You are steady & by Faith we can all know the power of Your Victory.        Amen.

In the Word, Not of the World

WCS#134

Heb 12:28,29 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence & godly fear. 29For our God is a consuming fire.”

Heb 12:28,29 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God.”

If asked, can I explain the unshakable Kingdom?

Are we receiving or have we already received the Kingdom?

What does “let us have Grace” mean to me?

How am I serving God in Grace?

Heb 12:28,29 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence & godly fear.”

What is acceptable service with reverence & Godly Fear?

Am I doing it on a regular basis?

Heb 12:28,29 “Therefore… let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence & godly fear. 29For our God is a consuming fire.”

Why is our God:  the God of Grace, described as a Consuming Fire?

How does knowing this affect my Faith?

How does it make me feel about family & friends that don’t know Jesus?

What can I, or should I do about it?

Spirit Love

WCS#133

Psa. 18:1,2 “I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock & my fortress & my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield & the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Are these attributes why we Love God?

How does God show His Strength in my life?

What does Rock & Fortress mean in my day to day?

How, & from what has God delivered me?

Do I fully Trust Jesus?  Even when God seems to be absent?

Am I unshakable in knowing & experiencing His Saving Grace?

Job 19:23-27 “Oh, that my words were written!  Oh, that they were inscribed in a book!  24That they were engraved on a rock With an iron pen & lead, forever!   25For I know that my Redeemer lives, & He shall stand at last on the earth;  & after the skin worms have eaten my body, this I know!!!   That in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, & my eyes shall behold, & not another.     Oh, how my heart yearns within me!”

Do I Love God Himself: more than all His Promises or Attributes or Blessings!”

Can we find words to improve (or add to) Job’s cry of Faith?

Does Spirit-Love dominate the landscape of my heart & mind?

Acts 20:24 Paul writes…“none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy (Acts 20:24).”

Can I agree with Job & Paul?

Do I unshakably declare my Faith in Jesus?

Spiritual Obedience & Maturity

WCS#132

Phi. 2:12,13 “my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear & trembling; 13for it is God who works in you both to will & to do for His good pleasure.”

Does Spiritual Obedience generally lead to self governing & spiritual maturity?

Phi. 2:12,13 “my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence…”

Wow! What confidence Paul has in the Philippian Believers!

He speaks of their consistency, obedience & self imposed decisions to walk in disciplined Faith.

Am I confident that I have always obeyed?

Do I consider myself a disciplined Christian?  How do I define it?

Phi. 2:12,13 “my beloved… work out your own salvation with fear & trembling...”

What does “work out your own salvation with fear & trembling; mean to me?

Am I “working out my Salvation?”

Is my weekly pursuit of God inclusive of other Christians?

If so, how does that look most of the time?

Phi. 2:12,13 “my beloved… work out your own salvation… 13for it is God who works in you both to will & to do for His good pleasure.”

How is God working in me?

Do I sense His active role in my daily life?

Is my life giving God pleasure?

In the Word, Not of the World

WCS#131

2 Co. 6:14-18 “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? What communion has light with darkness? …you are the temple of the living God…“Come out from among them & be separate, says the Lord.  Do not touch what is unclean, & I will receive you.  “I will be a Father to you, & you shall be My sons & daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.”

We have been Born Again by Grace through Faith: cleansed from the stains of our own Sin, & freed from the binding cords of our flesh-life.

Does this grant us freedom from responsibility!

Yes, we are to “come out from among them;” but we are also called Mar. 16:15 & Acts 1:8 to “Go into all the world… you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; & you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, & to the end of the earth.”

How do I balance separation & going to influence the world?

How can we Brothers in Faith work together to be accountable for this dichotomy of responsibility?

2Pe 3:9 “The Lord is not… willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

Yes, I am a Christian: but am I an example, witness, & Ambassadors for Christ?

We are “God’s Children;” Born Again” into God’s Family, but are we engaged in the Family Business?

What is God’s Business?                   What is my role in God’s business?

What can I do to impact family, friends & neighbors with the Gospel of Grace that Saves?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for Saving Grace!  Grow the Mustard Seed of Faith (Mar. 4:31) in us, until we become a welcoming shelter for those needing the Light of the Gospel.             Amen.

Grace upon Grace

WCS#130

John 1:16 “of His fullness we have all received, & grace for grace. 17For the law was given through Moses, but grace & truth came through Jesus Christ.”

Paul, in a solemn but passionate plea, gives Christians both a challenge & the means to achieve it:  Acts 20:32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God & to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up & give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

Do I understand & How do I receive Saving Grace?

Do I understand & How do I receive Grace to live the Right Life in Christ?

1- Acts 20:32 is written to people of Faith; “brethren.”         How do I feel about being brothers with other Christians?

2- Acts 20:32 is a double challenge; to embrace The Word as well as God & His Grace; “I commend you to God & to the word of His Grace.”            Am I embracing Christ & His Word or do I avoid the question of depth in my Faith?

3- Acts 20:32 is an explanation of Grace beyond rescue; Grace that will Save & “Build you up.”           What does Build You Up mean?         Am I being Built Up in Faith?

4- Acts 20:32 is Grace that imparts a special inheritance, especially reserved for those who are separated unto Christ; “& give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”           Do I believe there are “special” rewards in Heaven?          Am I among the Sanctified?       What can I do to receive this special promise?

Can we pray this Prayer together & for each other?: Lord Jesus, let us not fall short of the fullness of God’s Grace!  Impress upon our hearts that we “may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width & length & depth & height… that we may be filled with all the fullness of God (Eph 3:18,19).”          Amen.

Believing

WCS#128

John 12:42-43 “even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.”

John 12:42-43 “even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him…”

Believing, without confessing:

Can one truly Believe without a declaration of personal Faith?

Does this confessing include acknowledging my sin or sinfulness?

Big question: do I let unbelievers influence my Faith Life?

John 12:42-43 “even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.”

Am I afraid my growing Faith will cost me the support, friendship or fellowship of the religious folks?

Who do I love?  What do I love?  Do I love anything more than Jesus?

How do I make Jesus my top priority?

What can I do to be insure that the Word supersedes every other influence in my Life?

Anger

WCS#127

Jam. 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”

Jam. 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear…”

Listening is a vital skill… am I a good listener?

Do I value others enough to hear their story?

Do I form answers while I’m listening?

What does swift to hear mean & how does it look in real life?

Jam. 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak...”

Is one who is slow to speak automatically a good listener?

Does slow equal deliberate, or patient: what other definitions fit?

Jam. 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”

Is anger always wrong?

Does anger prevent me from hearing?

How do I feel after getting angry?

Am I producing the righteousness of God in my daily life?

Transformed

WCS#126

Romans 12:2“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.”

James 1:21 “Therefore, lay aside all filthiness & overflow of wickedness, & receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Romans 12:2“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.”

Am I becoming less & less influenced by the World?

Am I being identifiably transformed?

What can I do to complete the transformation from sinner to Christian?

James 1:21 “Therefore, lay aside all filthiness & overflow of wickedness, & receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Have I laid aside the obvious sins from my life?

Have I, Am I receiving the Word regularly?

Is the Word implanted in my heart: is my soul fine-tuned to the principles of Faith?

Am I pursuing godliness in every area of my life?

Can I proclaim Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; & the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me & gave Himself for me.”

A Deep Search Within

WCS#125

1 Peter 1:17-19 “if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;  18knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish & without spot.

1 Peter 1:17-19 “if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;

The Lord’s Prayer begins with “Our Father,” Do I call on the Father every day?

Am I conscious that God is watching my life?

Do I “conduct” myself with respect to God & concern for His Will?

Do I live daily with Awe & Respect for Jesus?

1 Peter 1:17-19 “conduct yourselves… 18knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish & without spot.

Do I think about the terrible price paid for my Salvation?

Have I ever sat in silence meditating on the life & death of Jesus?

How does the substitutionary suffering of Jesus effect my daily life?

Does Jesus’ Resurrection influence my daily decisions & cause me to abandon “aimless conduct?”  What is aimless conduct?

Do I ever slow down & think about how Precious Jesus is; what do I feel; how does it effect my life?

Chasing Jesus

WCS#124

Luke 9:23-24 "And he (Jesus) said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself & take up his cross daily & follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”

Luke 9:23-24 "And he (Jesus) said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself …”

“Jesus said to all…” have I considered myself as part of the “all,” or do I think some of the Word doesn’t really apply to me?

Do I follow Jesus?

In what ways have I denied myself to Serve Him?

Luke 9:23-24 "And he (Jesus) said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself & take up his cross daily & follow me…”

What does “take up my cross” mean to me personally?

Is the Faith pursuit my daily focus?

Luke 9:23-24 "And he (Jesus) said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself & take up his cross daily & follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”

Simple direct question.. am I losing my life & replacing it with Faith in Jesus?

Praying for the Saints

WCS#123

Colossians 1:9-13 “We also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, & to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom & spiritual understanding; 10that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work & increasing in the knowledge of God; 11strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience & longsuffering with joy; 12giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13He has delivered us from the power of darkness & conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:9-13 “We also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you…”

Big question!  Do I have a regular time set for devotion & prayer?

Do I pray consistently for fellow believers?

Colossians 1:9-13 “to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom & spiritual understanding; 10that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work & increasing in the knowledge of God;

Do I pray that our fellowship will know God’s Will?

What is God’s Wisdom & do I have “spiritual understanding?”

Am I praying daily to be fruitful?

What is God’s good work?

Am I, are we increasing in the knowledge of God?

Colossians 1:9-13 “We also do not cease to pray for you… that you may be… strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience & longsuffering with joy…”

Do I pray that others will be strengthened?

What does it mean “with all might?”

Am I strong, “according to His glorious power?”

Can I be patient & longsuffering … “With Joy?”

Colossians 1:9-13 “We… do not cease to pray… 12giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13He has delivered us from the power of darkness & conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Am I thankful & do I tell God, that I am?

Am I qualified to be a partaker in God’s inheritance?

Am I, can I… be a saint, walking in the light?

Have I been delivered from the dark, & living the Kingdom Life?

Do I pray as one who has experienced redemption & forgiveness?

Gain & Loss

WCS#122

Philippians 3:7-11 “what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, & count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ & be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10that I may know Him & the power of His resurrection, & the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.”

Philippians 3:7-11 “what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, & count them as rubbish...”

What have I lost because I came to Jesus?

What does it mean to consider all thing lost for Jesus?

What is the excellence of the knowledge of God?

Why does it make everything else rubbish?

Philippians 3:7-11 “what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ… that I may gain Christ & be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;”

What is “my righteousness” compared to Faith righteousness?

Philippians 3:7-11 “what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ… that I may know Him & the power of His resurrection, & the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.”

Do I know Him & the Power?

Can I understand & explain His Ressurection power?

What does it mean: to know the fellowship of His suffering?

Am I confident that when I die, I will be resurrected to Eternal Life with Jesus?

Cleansed

WCS#121

Isaiah 1:16,17 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.”

Isaiah 1:16,17 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil…”

What is & how do I wash myself spiritually?

“Your evil” is a possessive pronoun: how then do I put away “my” evil?

Can I really cease doing Evil?

Isaiah 1:16,17 “Wash yourselves, …Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.”

Seek, Rebuke, Defend & Plead are all very strong verbs… how do I apply these actions to my life?

Am I really expected “to be my Brother’s Keeper?”  How can I/We do that & still be there or our families?

Sharp & Powerful

WCS#120

“We need the Word spoken: not with studied rhetoric, academic excellence or with human wisdom; but with Divine Authority.”

Heb. 4:12 “The word of God is quick, & powerful, & sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul & spirit, & of the joints & marrow, & is a discerner of the thoughts & intents of the heart.”

What does quick, powerful, & sharp mean?

Does the Word feel like that to me?

What is represented by Joints, Marrow, Thoughts & Intents?

Propositions to discuss…

What is the dead letter (2 Co. 3:6)?

Without Authority, wouldn’t the Bible be like any other book?

If it has Authority, why do people treat it as though there were options in its meaning.

Example: Joh. 3:3 “unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Mat. 6:33 “seek first the kingdom of God & His righteousness.”

Mark 12:30 “you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, mind, & strength.”

Acts 4:12 “Jesus: no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

1 Pe. 1:16 “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Are these unmitigated Truth?

Perhaps we can pray: Lord Jesus, open our mind, heart & spirit to Your Divine Word!  Shape us, form us & mature us in the Word so we can walk victoriously in this world.        Amen.

God’s Earthly Plan

WCS#119

Ephesians 4:11-16 “He Himself gave some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, &  pastors & teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13till we all come to the unity of the faith & of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14that we should no longer be children, tossed to & fro & carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16from whom the whole body, joined & knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”

Ephesians 4:11-16 “He Himself gave some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, &  pastors & teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ…”

Am I or do I recognize in others these ministries in the fellowship I attend?

Have they affected my Faith life?

Ephesians 4:11-16 “…till we all come to the unity of the faith & of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14that we should no longer be children, tossed to & fro & carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting…”

Have I ever experienced true Unity of Faith?

Do I possess a full knowledge of Jesus?

Am I a mature Christian: can I get carried off by new ideas or charismatic people?

Ephesians 4:11-16 “… speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16from whom the whole body, joined & knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”

Am I a consistent speaker of Truth in Love?

Are all the Believers in my community of Faith contributing to the well being of the other?

What can I do to encourage everyone’s participation in The Faith Family?

Fruits: Flesh & Spirit

WCS#118

Galatians 5:16-25 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, & you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, & the Spirit against the flesh… Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, & the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.  22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions & desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Galatians 5:16-25 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, & you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, & the Spirit against the flesh…”

What is walking in the Spirit?

How does walking in the Spirit keep me from acting upon the desires of my flesh?

How am I doing in the battle between flesh & Spirit?

Galatians 5:16-25 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, & you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. …Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, & the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Do I know what each of these 17 actions are, & how they effect me, my friends, family & fellow believers?

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions & desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Do I know what each of these Faith actions are, & how they effect me, my friends, family & fellow believers?

Armor of Light

WCS#117

Romans 13:12-14 “The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, & let us put on the armor of light. 13Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry & drunkenness, not in lewdness & lust, not in strife & envy. 14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, & make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”

Romans 13:12-14 “The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, & let us put on the armor of light...”

What does mean; the night is far spent…. the day is at hand?

How do we cast off the works of darkness & why is it our responsibility?

How do we put on the Armor of Light & what does that mean?

Romans 13:12-14 “Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry & drunkenness, not in lewdness & lust, not in strife & envy.

What is it to “walk properly” & how do we know what properly is?

Do Believers ever display revelry, drunkenness, lewdness or lust?

What is strife & envy?  How do we overcome it?

Romans 13:12-14 “put on the Lord Jesus Christ, & make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”

What is our role in “putting on” the Lord Jesus Christ?

Explain provisioning the flesh & fulfilling its lust?

Eph. 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”           Have I put on the whole Armor of God?

Free Slaves

WCS#116

Romans 6:5,6 & 18, 19“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin… 18And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, & of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.”

Romans 6:5,6 & 18, 19“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin…

Death & Resurrection of the human soul: what does it mean?

If the old self is crucified, why do I still struggle with sin?

Can my “body of sin” be done away with?

Am I no longer a slave to sin?

Romans 6:5,6 & 18, 19 “having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, & of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.”

Am I struggling to be free from sin or am I set free?

Am I a free (volunteer) slave to righteousness?

Have I the same enthusiasm for righteousness that I had for sin?

Have I, or how do I, present my heart, mind soul & strength to holiness?

What does that look like to bystanders?

Fruit, Pruning, Burning & Glory

WCS#115

John 15:5-8 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, & I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch & is withered; & they gather them & throw them into the fire, & they are burned. If you abide in Me, & My words abide in you, you will[a] ask what you desire, & it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

John 15:5-8 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, & I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing…

If Jesus is the vine & I am branch, am I bearing His Fruit?

Am I aware that on my own strength I can do nothing?

John 15:5-8 “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch & is withered; & they gather them & throw them into the fire, & they are burned…

What does it mean to “abide in Me”?

Am I drawing my life flow from Christ Jesus?

Is there a significance to the sequence of … cast out, withered, gathered, thrown & burned?

John 15:5-8 “If you abide in Me, & My words abide in you, you will[a] ask what you desire, & it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

There seems to be a partnership between me & the Word: how faithful am I too it?

Is my “asking” in harmony with the Word?

Am I glorifying God with my daily fruit?

Kingdom Received

WCS#114

Hebrews 12:28 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence & godly fear.”

Hebrews 12:28 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken…

If we “are receiving a Kingdom” (statement is present tense): What does it look like in my life?

Who’s the King in the Kingdom? What is relationship to Him?

If I’m receiving this unshakable Kingdom, does that make me unshakable?

Hebrews 12:28 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence & godly fear.”

What is this grace, with a small case “g” when compared to Grace with a capital “G” ?

How does this grace help me serve God in an acceptable way?

Am I in a permanent state of reverence & godly fear?

Water & Spirit Birth

WCS#113

John 3:3-6 “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is Born Again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”   Nicodemus said, “How can a man be born when he is old?  “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water & the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, & that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

John 3:3-6 “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is Born Again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”   Nicodemus said, “How can a man be born when he is old?

Jesus made it clear; supernatural Spiritual Birth is the only doorway to His Kingdom.   What does it mean to me to be Born Again?

Does age have a factor in coming to Jesus for Salvation?

John 3:3-6 “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is Born Again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”   Nicodemus said, “How can a man be born when he is old?  “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water & the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

“Unless one is.”  Does this phrase limit the access to Grace, Salvation & Heaven?

Am I aware that I have two lives?  What does this mean & how does it affect my daily life?

John 3:3-6 “Most assuredly, I say… That which is born of the flesh is flesh, & that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

Am I Born Again & has 2 Corinthians 5:17  become a reality in my life?

“if anyone is in Christ, he is a New Creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Equilibrium of Faith

WCS#112

2 Timothy 1:6,7 “ I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

2 Timothy 1:6,7 “ I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”

Ephesians 4:8 “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”

What does it mean to have an Elder/Pastor pray for me to be gifted?

Have I ever sought for an Elder/Pastor: to have them pray for me to be gifted?

What is the gift, God has given me?  How do I exercise God’s Gift?

2 Timothy 1:6,7 “ I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

If God gives gifts, how does fear relate to those gifts?

Paul says that God doesn’t give fear; so how does Power, Love & and sound mind relate to gifts?

Do I, or how can I, balance the relationship between gifts, power, love & sound thinking?

Spiritual Perception & Understanding

WCS#111

Ephesians 5:9,10,17,18 “the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, & truth, 10finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. …. 17Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”

Ephesians 5:9,10,17,18 “the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, & truth, 10finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. ….”

What are the good, righteous & true Fruits of the Spirit?

How can I really know what is acceptable to the Lord?

How do I respond to what I know about God’s Will?

Ephesians 5:9,10,17,18 “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”

If we’re not supposed to act unwise, in what ways can all Christians be wise?

Is drunk & dissipation the same thing?

Why is “drunk” presented as the direct opposite of “filled with the Holy Spirit?”

Am I filled with the Holy Spirit?

If I am, how should He be affecting my life?

Spiritual Perception & Understanding

WCS#110

Mark 8:14-19,21 14Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, & they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat. 15Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees & the leaven of Herod.”  16And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have no bread.” 17But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened? 18Having eyes, do you not see? & having ears, do you not hear? & do you not remember? 19When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up? …21So, “How is it you do not understand?”

What does the forgotten bread represent?

To perceive: become aware of by the use of our senses…

What don’t we perceive in our spiritual lives?

How do we learn or gain spiritual perception?

What do I understand now that I didn’t before we Met Jesus?

Jesus asked His disciples… “How is it you do not understand?”

What keeps us from really understanding spiritual things?

What can I do to be more perceptive?

When something is made clear, how do I respond?

How can I respond better?

Is it my responsibility to improve my spiritual perception?

How do I accomplish that?

If or when I perceive God’s Will what is my immediate response?

How does understanding a Bible passage effect my life?

The Riches of His Glory

WCS#109

Ephesians 3:14-19 “I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15from whom the whole family in heaven & earth is named, 16that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted & grounded in love, 18may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width & length & depth & height— 19to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Ephesians 3:14-19 “the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15from whom the whole family in heaven & earth is named, 16that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man…”

Do I have or even understand the “riches of His Glory?”

Has my inner man been strengthened with His might by His Spirit?

How would I explain it to others?

Ephesians 3:14-19 “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted & grounded in love, 18may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width & length & depth & height— 19to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Does Jesus really live in my Heart?

Am I rooted & grounded in His Love?  How has that looked in my life?

What is the width, length, height & depth of God’s Love?

Have I been filled with the fullness of God?  Do I even know what that means?

Cleansing the Way

WCS#108

Psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man cleanse his way?  By taking heed according to Your word.   10With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!   11Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

Psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man cleanse his way?  By taking heed according to Your word.

Young in Faith … can one really cleanse his/her ways?

To take heed, one must know… have I pursued knowing Jesus & His Will?

Have I taken heed: considered & obeyed the Word?

Psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man cleanse his way?  By taking heed according to Your word.   10With my whole heart I have sought You;

Can I say with confidence… “With my whole heart I have sought the Lord & His Way?

Psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man cleanse his way?  By taking heed according to Your word.   10With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!   11Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

Do I wander from the Will of God?

Do I consistently store up the Word in my heart?

Can I claim seasons of sin free life?   Weeks?   Days?

Children, Young Men & Fathers

WCS#106

1 John 2:12-14 “I write to you, little children,Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.  13I write to you, fathers,Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.  I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one.
I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father.  14I have written to you, fathers,Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.  I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, & the word of God abides in you, & you have overcome the wicked one.”

1 John 2:12-14 “I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.

Are my sins forgiven?  How?  When?

1 John 2:12-14 “I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.”

What are some absolutes I know about God the Father?

1 John 2:12-14 “I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one.”

Have I overcome?  How does it effect my everyday life?

1 John 2:12-14 “I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father.  14I have written to you, fathers,Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.  I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, & the word of God abides in you, & you have overcome the wicked one.”

This is a confirmation of the previous statements… a sort of double check on their Faith.  Primarily, the only word added is “Strong”

How Strong is my knowledge of The Father?

How Strong is my consistency… does my victory match His forgiveness?

How Strong is my heart, mind & soul in the Word?

Resist, Cleanse & Humble

WCS#105

James 4:7-10 “submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

James 4:7-10 “submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

What does submit to God mean to me?

How does one resist the Devil?

How do I draw near to God?

How will I know He is drawing to me?

James 4:7-10 “…Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

How do I cleans my hands spiritually?

Can I have a pure heart?

Can I become self disciplined enough to be humble?

Can I testify to having been lifted in spirit by a touch from God?

Draw Back or Believe

WCS#104

Hebrews 10:38-39 “Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”39But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”

Hebrews 10:38-39 “Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”

Who are the just?

How do we recognize if we ourselves are one of them?

Can we know if God (or perhaps others like the writer of Hebrews) has no pleasure in us?

Can we discern the difference between “Soul Displeasure” & other kinds of disappointments that people may have in us?

Hebrews 10:38-39 “Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”39But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”

The writer determined, by his judgement, that the reader is not like his first description; rather they are Believers… How deep is our belief if we are being saved?

What does it mean to me: to the Saving of the Soul?

MILK or MEAT

WCS #103

Hebrews 5:10-14 “you have become dull of hearing.  12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; & you have come to need milk & not solid food. 13For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good & evil.

Hebrews 5:10-12 “you have become dull of hearing.  12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; & you have come to need milk & not solid food.”

Wow.  Can we be “dull of hearing?”

What does it mean in our daily life?

If we get “dull of hearing,” what does it mean?

Am I a spiritual milk drinker or a meat eater?

Hebrews 5:13-14 “For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good & evil.

Am I a babe in Faith?

How do we grow up?

What is solid Spiritual Food?

Do I consistently exercise my Faith?

Regeneration & Renewal

WCS#102

Titus 3:3-7 “we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts & pleasures, living in malice & envy, hateful & hating one another. 4But when the kindness & the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration & renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Titus 3:3-7 “we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts & pleasures, living in malice & envy, hateful & hating one another.

Looking back (Briefly… not a sin brag-fest) can we share how these effected us?

Titus 3:3-7 “But when the kindness & the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration & renewing of the Holy Spirit”

When & how did I wake up to see my need to to “be saved?”

Can I explain my personal “regeneration?”

How does “renewing in the Holy Spirit” effecting my life?

Titus 3:3-7 “He saved us, through the washing of regeneration & renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

How do I respond to being “justified by Grace?”

What does it mean to me to be an “heir of eternal life.”

Do I see my daily life in an eternal perspective?

My Pattern of Life

WCS#101

Titus 2:6-8 “exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,[a] 8sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of [b]you.

Titus 2:6-8 “exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works;

If I’m a young Christian, do I have someone speaking into my life?

If I’m a seasoned Christian, do I have someone into whom I’m speaking life?

Am I demonstrating a consistent pattern of Good Works?

Titus 2:6-8 “in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8sound speech

Am I an example of living sound doctrine?

Am I an example of integrity?

Am I an example of reverence?

Am I incorruptible?

Does my daily conversation set an example of sound speech?

Titus 2:6-8 “7in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; … that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.

In general, do I live a life that is unassailable?

Vessels For Honor

WCS#99

2 Timothy 2:20-23 “in a great house there are not only vessels of gold & silver, but also of wood & clay, some for honor & some for dishonor. 21Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified & useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23But avoid foolish & ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.”

How do I define a vessel of dishonor compared to one of honor?

What does it mean to have both kinds in the Great House?

How do I assure that I will be a vessel of honor?

Am I sanctified & useful to God?

Am I prepared to do whatever He requires?

2 Timothy 2:20-23 “… be a vessel for honor, sanctified & useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23But avoid foolish & ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.”

How do I know if I am “fleeing lust & pursuing righteousness?

How does Faith, love & peace effect my relationship with other Christians?

Do I, can I, have I, engaged in conversations that make for strife instead of fellowship?

The Story on Iniquity

WCS#98

2 Timothy 2:19 “ the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

2 Timothy 2:19 “ the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,”

The Lord knows who are His, but do we?

How do we know if someone is a Christian?

Is it important for us to determine if a family member, friend, teacher, preacher or leader is really a Christian?        Why?

2 Timothy 2:19 “ the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

Iniquity (according to Webster Dictionary): corruption, debauchery, depravity, immorality, licentiousness, profligacy (reckless waster), sin & vice

How would I describe these characteristics of iniquity?

If we name (claim) to know Jesus in a Saving relationship, what does it look like  to depart from iniquity?

Can one actually escape iniquity?

Personal Discipline

WCS#97

Colossians 2:20-23 “Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— 21“Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and [n]neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

Can rules & regulations bring us closer to Christ Jesus?

Does sacrifice & human restraint make us holy?

What things are being talked about here?

Can we just run wild & do anything we want?

Colossians 2:23 “These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.”

Wow! I can restrain from all these things (whatever they are) and still indulge my flesh?        What then is a healthy spiritual life?

Romans 8:3-6 “what the law (legalism) could not do… God did by sending His own Son…For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Beyond the Law, is the Law in Our Heart (Rom. 2:15).  What does having the Law written on our heart look like?

How do I know if it’s there & how does it make me behave?

Forgetting & Pressing

WCS#96

Philippians 3:12- 15 “12Not that I have already attained,[c] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13Brethren, I do not count myself to have [d]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.

Philippians 3:12- 15 “12Not that I have already attained,[c] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.”

Do I press on in my Faith, or am I stuck in the growing process?

Can I express how Jesus holds my life?

Philippians 3:13 “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead…”

Can I, do I, forget the past & reach into the future with Faith?

Philippians 3:14 “I  press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.

Am I pressing on to a growing Faith, or floating into whatever comes my way?

Am I more mature in Faith than I was last year?

Futility or A Renewed Mind

WCS#95

Ephesians 4:17-19 “This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as [f]the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.  17This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as [f]the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.  20But you have not so learned Christ, 21if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

Ephesians 4:17-19 “This I say, therefore, & testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

What does walking in futility of the mind mean?

How does our understanding become darkened?

How does ignorance alienate us from God?

Wow!!!!  What happens when one is beyond feeling & giving himself to sin?

20But you have not so learned Christ, 21if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:

Answering the IF… have I heard?

Have I been taught the Truth in Jesus?

22that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

What is it to put off the old man & put on the new?

Reaping & Sowing

WCS#94

Galatians 6:7-10 “7Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Galatians 6:7-10 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”

How can we be deceived, if we believe?

Can we mock God?  What would that look like?

What is spiritual sowing & reaping?

Galatians 6:7-10 “7Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; … 8For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

What is sowing to the flesh & what is sowing to the Spirit?

Corruption or spirit life;  how are they different?

What do they look like in the daily, practical walk of life?

Galatians 6:7-10 “7Do not be deceived, God is not mocked… 9And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

What does doing good look like?

Am I doing good or growing weary?

Old Life, New Life

WCS#93

Galatians 2:20… “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; & the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me & gave Himself for me.”

Galatians 2:20… “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…”

If I am crucified with Christ, what does that mean?

What does being crucified with Christ look like in my life?

When & how did it happen to me?

Galatians 2:20… “I have been crucified with Christ… & the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me & gave Himself for me.”

How is my life now, different than my life before?

Can I share My Faith so others will understand?

Jesus loved me; He gave Himself for me at Calvary… what do I give Him?

Diversity of Gifts & ministries

WCS#92

1 Corinthians 12:4-11  “4There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

1 Corinthians 12:4-11  “4There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

God is obviously very diverse, am I able to accept & appreciate the differences He anoints?

How do I describe Spirit inspired “Gifts, Ministries & Activities?”

7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:

Do each of us have gifts that prophet everyone else?

Do I consciously understand & minister with an identifiable gift?

8for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Do I understand these gifts?

Am I aware of these gifts being administered by friends, family & other members?

God gives these gifts, what is a gift I see at work in my life?

Sin in the Church

WCS#91

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 “I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person.  12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 “I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person.

Do I have people in my circle that shouldn’t be there?

If I do, how should I handle the future?

What is the right procedure for adding folks to my fellowship circle?

12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

How do we evaluate other believers without becoming condemning?

When looking at others, do I look at myself first?

With Jesus (not other Christians) as our standard, how are we doing as a group?

Hard Question: what does “putting away” mean & how does it affect us?

One Body, Many Gifts

WCS#90

Romans 12:5-8 “we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 12:5-8 “we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.

How do I see myself in relationship to others in the Body of Christ?

Am I connected to others in the Body of Christ?

What does it mean to be “in the Body of Christ?

6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them:

Are the gifts used in our church? How? Who?

if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

What is prophesy? How does Faith effect prophecy?

What is gifted ministry?

What is exhortation?  Is it active private of public in our body of fellowship?

Do I have the gift of giving?

How is leading a gift?

Can I identify someone in our fellowship that has the gift of Mercy & Cheerfulness?

Confession, Faith, Salvation

WCS#89

Romans 10:9-14 “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Romans 10:9-14 “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

To whom have I verbally confessed my faith in Jesus?

What does it mean to believe in my heart?

What does it mean to believe unto Righteousness?

Romans 10:9-14 “for the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Does not being put to shame mean we will do nothing that could bring shame?

Jesus hears both Jew & Gentile; Do I have any prejudice in me?

Do I believe that anyone can receive Grace through Faith?

Flesh Walk or Spirit Walk

WCS#88

Romans 8:1-5 “1There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Am I living without condemnation?

Am I walking daily in the Spirit?

Am I free?

3For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Can I explain how Jesus fulfilled the Law, releasing us from the death sentence?

What does it mean: “not walking according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit?  Which am I walking in?

5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

What is my daily mindset?

How would I think & act differently if I was totally committed to the Spirit Life?

Sin & Faith

WCS#87

Romans 6:10-14,19 “the death that Jesus died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What does it mean to reckon myself dead to sin?

Am I dead to sin & fully alive unto Jesus?

12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.”

13And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

What choice do I have in facing sin?

Do I, or have I “presented” my body to sin? What did it look like?

Do I, or have I ever presented my body to God in righteousness? What does that look like?

14For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace…  19 just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.”

Does sin ever have power over me?

How does 1 sin lead to another?

Do I see myself as a Slave to Jesus?

Where Am I Planted

WCS#86

Jeremiah 17:7,8.    Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord.

Do I fully Trust in the Lord?

How am I blessed?

How does Hope effect my daily life?

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear[a] when heat comes;

When the heat (trial & temptations, etc) am I fearlessly planted in Christ?

But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Do I stay fit & ready to bear fruit on my bad days?

Am I anxious when things aren’t going my way?

Do I ceaselessly bear fruits of Faith?

Adding toFaith

WCS#85

2 Peter 1:5-8  “for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

First, how do I add anything to my Faith?

Second, is this list empirical?  Can I skip one & add one beyond it in the list?

Third, what is virtue?

Forth, how do I know what knowledge to add?

Fifth, can I ever have true self-control?  How will that look to others?

Sixth, is this perseverance more or different than disciplined determination?

Seventh, what is godliness? Can I define it & claim it as an attribute in my life?

Eighth, brotherly kindness: is that different than Love?  Do I possess either consistently?

Partaking in the Divine Nature

WCS#84

2Peter 1:2-4 “2Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

Am I living in Divine Peace & Grace?  Share how it effects my Life?

If not, can I increase my knowledge of God & gain His Grace & Peace? How?

4Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Do I still have “evil desires?”

Have I escaped the corruption of this world?  How did I do it?

If I haven’t, what must I do to escape & live in Grace & Peace?

Life-Prayer

WCS#83

Colossians 1:9-13 “9For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Am I praying every day for anyone; should I be?

Who will I commit to praying for?

10that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Will praying that others be worthy, pleasing, knowledgeable & fruitful inspire me to be more fruitful myself?

11strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;

Praying for strength, power, patience, & joy is a specific expectation; is my Faith secure enough to receive & encourage another to receive as well?

12giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

Am I qualified for the saints inheritance?

Do I have a daily spirit of thanksgiving in prayer?

I Am The Resurrection

WCS#82

John 11:23-26 “Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

John 11:23-26 “Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Am I as certain as Martha that the dead will be raised?

Martha had a someday Faith; is my Faith a now Faith or a someday Faith?

John 11:23-26 “Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.

What did Jesus mean by “He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.”

Martha’s answer seems ambivalent… “Yes, You are Christ who is to come.”

How can we have a right now Faith about Resurrection?

Is there resurrection for us now, before the end of this age?

When Jesus said … “whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” What did He mean?

My God, My Praise, Your Truth

WCS#81

Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, For You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.”

Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt You…

How do I exalt God?

Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, You are my God. I will praise Your name…

When, where & how do I praise the Name of Jesus?

Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, You are my God. You have done wonderful things…

What are some of the wonderful things God has done in my Life?

Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt You… Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.”

What are some things in God’s Word that have guided me to a more Faithful life?

Have I embraced Truth that is only found in Jesus? What is it?

Real Life Faith Commitment

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7You shall teach them diligently to your children, & shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, & when you rise up. 8You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, & they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9You shall write them on the doorposts of your house & on your gates.”

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.”

How does the Word get from our head to our Heart?

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “And these words which I command you today... 7You shall teach them diligently to your children, & shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, & when you rise up.”

Is the Word an integral part of my lifestyle?

Is the Word an identifiable theme in my daily conversation?

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “And these words which I command you today.. You shall… talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, & when you rise up. 8You shall bind them as a sign on your hand.”

Is the Word evident on my hands as defined by the things I do?

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “And these words which I command you today… shall be as frontlets between your eyes.”

Is the Word evident in my thinking?

Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “And these words which I command you today... 9You shall write them on the doorposts of your house & on your gates.”

Is the Word the standard for behavior in my home?

Does the Word set an atmosphere for a healthy spiritual life in my home?

Personal Encounter

WCS#79

Luke 24.44-45 “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Following the Resurrection Jesus spoke “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you,

What are the Basic Teachings of Jesus to His Disciples?

… that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”

What are the teachings about Jesus in the Law, Prophets & Psalms that are the most clear?

Am I persuaded that Jesus fulfilled these prophecies? Why?

Luke 24.44-45 “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

What did they understand?

How important was the EXPERIENCE of their encounter with Jesus?

Have I had a special moment of Jesus Revelation where I became personally aware of His presence?

Can or will I, share that encounter with my fellow Believers?

Prayer Exam & Actions

WCS#78

Psalm 139:23,24 “Search me, O God, & know my heart; test me & know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, & lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

Psalm 139:23,24 “Search me, O God, & know my heart; test me & know my anxious thoughts.

When is the last time I asked God to search my heart? What was the result?

When have I invited God to Test my thoughts? How did that prayer change my life?

If I haven’t invited God to search my Heart & Mind, should I try it now?

Psalm 139:23,24 “Search me, O God… & Point out anything in me that offends you, & lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

What are things that can offend God?

What am I doing about the things in my life that offend God?

Do I sense the Leading of God?

How am I doing in following His guidance?

How can we in this group spiritually help each other along the way?

Prayer Hindered

WCS#77

Isaiah 59:1 Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. 2It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away & will not listen anymore.”

What are we listening for/to?

Isaiah 59:1 Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.

How does this proclamation effect my prayer life?

Should this Truth effect my attitude?

It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away & will not listen anymore.”

Wow! What sins are in my life that cut us off from God’s promises?

According to this passage, God hears, He just won’t listen to the prayers of the Christian who refuses to walk the faith they claim to have… Am I walking if the Faith, to the full extent of my knowledge of God?

Conclusion: Sin will never be sanctioned by God through answering the prayers of men & women who are not sincere in their Faith.

How does this statement effect me?

The Faith That Amazes

WCS#76

Mark 2:5-12 “When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you. 6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone? 8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?9Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

Mark 2:5 “When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.

Can Jesus see your Faith?

Have you received forgiveness through Faith? How did it change your life?

6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone? 8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? 9Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

Do I question the promises or power of God?

What will Jesus have to do today, to get us to really Believe “all” His Word?

He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

What is the significance of “Take up your bed & goto your house?

When is the last time I was amazed by God?

Have I recently experienced the unexpected; the unfamiliar move of God?

Paul’s Fullness of God Prayer

WCS#75

Ephesians 3:14 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,15from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:14 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Do I understand praying to the Father?

Do I pray with a focused purpose?

Ephesians 3:14 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,15from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,

Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians… that God would grant strength through the glorious riches of His Glory…

What does this mean?

Is my inner man connected with the Holy Spirit?

Ephesians 3:14 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;

Does Christ Live in Me? What proof is there?

Ephesians 3:14 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—

Am I rooted & grounded in love? What is the evidence?

Can all the saints understand the width, length, depth & height of God’s Love? Can we share it? Do I share it?

Ephesians 3:14 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… 19to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Am I full of all the fullness of God

Temptation& Running

WCS#74

1Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

1Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man;

When I’m tempted, do I feel alone? Should I?

1Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able

How is Good faithful when temptations assault me?

Do I have a good self-picture of my strengths & weaknesses?

1Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Is escaping temptation part of my personal strategy for spiritual victory?

How should it look & work?

“That you may be able to bear it,” Seems to make me at least partially responsible for maintaining victory; how am I doing?

Walking In The Conflict

WCS#73

Galatian 5:16,17 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.”

Galatian 5:16,17 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

What is walking in the Spirit?

Does this passage say I’m responsible for my walk? If so how can I do it?

How does walking in the Spirit keep me from yielding to the flesh?

Galatian 5:16,17 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.”

What does this opposition between flesh & Spirit look like?

How am I doing in this personal struggle?

Galatian 5:16,17 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.”

The struggle to do what’s right is real…

Why don’t I do what I want to do?

What can I do when I’m not victorious?

Therefore Promises

WCS#72

2 CORINTHIANS 6:16- 7:1 “As God has said: “I will dwell in them & walk among them. I will be their God, & they shall be My people. 17 Therefore Come out from among them & be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, & I will receive you. 18 I will be a Father to you, & you shall be My sons & daughters, Says the LORD Almighty. 2 Co. 7:1 Therefore having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh & spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

2 CORINTHIANS 6:16- 7:1 “God has said: “I will dwell in them & walk among them. I will be their God, & they shall be My people…

How does God walk among us & Live within us?

If He is our God how do we identify as His people?

17 Therefore Come out from among them & be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, & I will receive you. 18 I will be a Father to you, & you shall be My sons & daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.

Who do we come out from among?

What are the unclean things we must not touch?

When do we receive God’s Promise to receive us& be a Father to us & we become His sons & daughters?

When do we become His sons & daughters?

2 Co. 7:1 Therefore having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh & spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

How do we, who have become sons & daughters, perfect the Holiness of God?

What does the Holiness of God look like in a Born Again Christian?

Ambassadors

WCS#71

2 CORINTHIANS 5:19-20.. “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”

2 CORINTHIANS 5:19-20.. “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them,

Jesus came to reconcile the world to God; how has this affected my daily life?

What does “not imputing” my trespass to me mean? How does it effect me daily?

2 CORINTHIANS 5:19-20.. “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”

Plead: to beg, entreat, beseech, implore, appeal to, petition, supplicate, request, ask earnestly, call on or solicit;

What is our role as Ambassadors?

Am I fulfilling that responsibility?

How do Christ's Ambassadors (how do I) plead with our family, neighbors & peers to receive a reconciled relationship with Jesus our Lord?

Preparing For The End

WCS#68

2 Peter 3:10,11. “But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God.”

2 Peter 3:10,11. “But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.

Scary! Does believing this effect my daily life?

2 Peter 3:10,11. “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God.”

What does an end time Christian look like?

What is holiness & godliness?

Am I conducting my life with them in mind?

How can I hasten the second coming of Christ?

How impactful is it to even be talking about this with one another?

Consequences

WCS#67

Colossians 3:23-25 (NASB) “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord & not for people, 24 knowing that it is from the Lord that you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. 25 for the one who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, & that without partiality..”

Colossians 3:23-25 (NASB) “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord & not for people, 24 knowing that it is from the Lord that you will receive the reward of the inheritance.

How does my Faith look in the marketplace, at my job & in the community?

Do I really understand that my paycheck isn’t the final reward for my faithful life?

Colossians 3:23-25 (NASB) “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord & not for people, 24 knowing that it is from the Lord that you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. 25 for the one who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, & that without partiality..”

How would I describe “doing wrong” in the marketplace, at my job & in the community?

What are the consequences for “doing wrong” in the marketplace, at my job & in the community?

What are the Christian’s rewards for being & doing right?

Transgress or Abide

WCS#66

2 John 1:9-11 “Whoever transgresses & does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.

2 John 1:9-11 “Whoever transgresses & does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father & the Son.

How does one define transgress?

What is the doctrine of Christ?

Do I abide in the doctrine of Christ & do I have The Father & the Son in my life?

2 John 1:9-11 “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.

The word greet in this text is literally Shalom… What does it mean to greet (Shalom) unbelievers?

Do I share in evil deeds with unbelievers by endorsement?

Ok, Wow! Do I open my private life or even my spirit to unbelief through unbelievers?

Five Fold Truth

WCS#65

2 John 1:1 “The Elder, To the elect lady & her children, whom I love in Truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the Truth, 2 because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: 3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. Walk in Christ’s Commandments 4 I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth.”

2 John 1:1 “The Elder, To the elect lady & her children, whom I love in Truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the Truth…”

Who are the Elect Lady & her Children & what does it mean to Love the them?

Who is the Truth with a capital T?

Who are those who know the Truth with a capital T?

2 John 1:1 “The Elder, To the elect lady & her children, whom I love in Truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the Truth, 2 because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever…”

Is this Forever-Truth in me?

2 John 1: 3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. Walk in Christ’s Commandments. 4 I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth.”

Is Grace, Mercy, Peace, Truth & Love always with me & how do each affect me?

What does it mean… “some” of your children are walking in truth?

Seed Sown

WCS#64

Matthew 13:18“Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19“When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.”

How does one explain receiving the Word Seed & having the enemy snatch it away?

20“But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21“yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

What does receiving the Seed with Joy mean?

If One receives the Seed in Joy, why don’t they endure through the trial?

22“Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

What are the cares & deceitful riches?

23“But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Am I good ground for the Seed?

Am I bearing good fruit?

What is my fruit bearing capacity: 30, 60 or 100? Am I maximizing my potential?

Wise Men Confess Jesus

WCS#63

Matthew 10:32 Jesus said “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33“But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”

Is identifying with Jesus central to my daily life?

Do I openly own Him as my Savior or am I sometimes timid or even ashamed?

Matthew 12:30 (NLT) declares that there is no neutral when it comes to Faith: “Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, & anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.”

Have I ever tried being neutral?

What is my most powerful motive for confessing Jesus in public?

Does fear prevent boldness in my Faith?

Is there a difference between rudeness & spiritual boldness?

What does true spiritual boldness look like?

The Narrow Gate

WCS#62

Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.

What is the Narrow Gate being referred to by Matthew?

Why is it so narrow?

Is it really that easy to go through the wide gate to destruction?

If many go through the wide gate, how many is many?

(Suggested illustration: discus the words; many, few, most & all. Then use ten coins of the same face value & have the men separate the coins into two groups. Work together until all agree upon a group of many & a group of few).

Matthew 7:14 “Enter by the narrow gate… Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

We already talked about “what is the Gate,” why is it so difficult to go through?

Am I among the many or among the few?

How can I be sure that I’m going through the Narrow Gate?

Prayer

WCS#61

1 Tim. 2:1-3 (NLT) “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful & quiet lives marked by godliness & dignity. 3This is good & pleases God our Savior, 4who wants everyone to be saved & to understand the truth.”

1 Tim. 2:1-3 (NLT) “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.”

First, how often do I pray?

Do I intercede & ask God to help people I don’t know, or don’t agree with, or don’t even like?

Can I should I give thanks for them? Why?

1 Tim. 2:1-3 (NLT) “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful & quiet lives marked by godliness & dignity.”

Do I pray for people in power?

Do I understand the promise that comes to me through praying for others?

Do I have a passion for people to be Saved?

What does it mean to “Understand Truth?”

How can my prayer life please God?

Fellowship & Light

WCS#60

1 John 1:6 “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, & walk in darkness, we lie & do not practice the truth. 7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, & the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

What does being in fellowship with Jesus mean to me?

Am I living a life of Light or has darkness creeped?

Am I cleansed by the Blood of Jesus, what does that mean?

Is there a difference between cleansed & cleanses?

1 John 1:8 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”

Do I delay in confessing my unintentional Sin?

Jesus is Faithful to Forgive, how do I react when forgiven?

Is His Word (The Word) in me?

The Healthy ChristianMind

WCS#59

1 Peter 1:13-16 “So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:13-16 “So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control.”

How do I prepare my mind?

What action am I supposed to be prepared for?

Do I, can I control my thoughts & action?

1 Peter 1:13-16 “Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.”

Do I live focused on Tahoe Hope that is in Christ Jesus?

1 Peter 1:13-16 “So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. Working Faith

WCS#58

James 2:19 “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

James 2:19 “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

Is my belief real Faith or intellectual acceptance that Jesus of Nazareth was a real man?

James 2:20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

Has my Faith changed me enough so it motivates Works of Faith?

James 2: 23. “And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And he was called the friend of God. 24You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.” 26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Has my Faith created friendship in my relationship with God?

Do my actions validate my claim of Faith?

Christ Jesus Working In You

Philippians 2:1-2. “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”

What is Consolation in Christ?

What does Comfort-Love in Christ look like?

What is Fellowship of the Spirit?Am I in Fellowship with God’s Spirit?

How are Christians expected to show affection & mercy?

Philippians 2:1-2 “fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”

Is harmony among fellow believers a condition that gives me Joy?

What is harmony (perhaps think of a choir & orchestra with different voices & instruments)?

How can I contribute to making harmony a reality in my circle?

Do I have someone that I’m pouring into?

Have I helped other believers see how important it is to pass on the Faith?

14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers.

In general, do I influence others for God?

Are my conversations spiritually profitable?

2 Corinthians 9:1-2, 10 “Now concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you; 2 for I know your willingness… & your zeal has stirred up the majority…. Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, & bread for food, supply & multiply the seed you have sown & increase the fruits of your righteousness

2 Corinthians 9:1 “Now concerning the ministering to the saints

How do I minister To my fellow believers?

2 Corinthians 9:1 “Now concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous (totally unnecessary) for me to write to you;

Is my Christian love, compassion & care for others so obvious it’s redundant to

even mention it.

2 Corinthians 9:2 “Now concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you; 2 for I know your willingness… & your zeal has stirred up the majority…

Is my willingness & enthusiasm inspiring others?

Does my example motivate the Faith-family to participate in ministry?

2 Corinthians 9:2, 10 “your zeal has stirred up the majority…. Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, & bread for food, supply & multiply the seed you have sown & increase the fruits of your righteousness.”

Am I seeing God supply seed for Spiritual Fruit in my life?

Is my Faith & Faith seed increasing?

Running With Purpose

WCS#53

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 “Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!(NLT)

What is the race we’re in & how do we win the prize?

25 “All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.” (NLT)

What does it mean to be disciplined & gain the prize?

26 “So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.”

Ok, I know I’m running the Faith Race, what is my purpose?

I’m committed to training for the race, but at what level? Am I training like a casual participant, a weekend warrior or like an Olympic Athlete?

Could I actually loose the prize?

Presented & Acceptable

WCS#51

Romans 12:1-3 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Present

Have I consciously given myself as a living, voluntary gift to God?

Acceptable

Is my life acceptable to God?

Do I consider sacrificing to please God a reasonable decision?

Transformed

Have I conformed to this world, or is the Word transforming my thinking?

Proven

Wow, wow, wow! Have I proven myself to have been good & acceptable

according to the Will of God???

Could my whole life be a lifetime “work-in-progress” zone: growing daily?

Philippians 1:6 NLT. “I am certain that God, who began the good work

within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day

when Christ Jesus returns.”

No Condemnation, Walking With God

WCS#50

Romans 8:1,4 “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit… that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit…

Do I feel uncertain about my spiritual life; not sure if I’m what I could or should

be?

How can I explain what it means to“walk in the flesh?”

What is the evidence that one is “walking in the Spirit?”

Romans 8:1,4 “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit… that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

What are the “Righteous Requirements?”

They were not fulfilled in the Old Testament, can they be fulfilled in my life?

I’m very hesitant to proclaim myself righteous! Maybe I can be confident in a

“Right Relationship“ with God.

Is being in “Right Relationship” with Jesus possible?

Can we walk in the Spirit without being saturated in the Word?

Is “No Condemnation” the same as freedom in Grace?

Forgetting Forward

WCS#49

Philippians 3:12-14 “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected… I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind & reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:12 “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected… I

do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those

things which are behind

“I’m not perfect… but one thing I do”… is my Faith focused?

“I’m not perfect”… but can I live beyond my yesterdays?

“I’m not perfect”… but can I forgive & forget? (My own shortfalls as well as the shortfalls of others).

Philippians 3:14 “forgetting those things which are behind & reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Am I “Forgetting Forward” or is the past keeping me from my goals?

Am I making a determined effort to reach the prize? What is the prize?

Does my life-goal include Jesus? How?

Sober Thinking

WCS#48

Romans 12:3-5 “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God has given to every man the measure of faith. Since we have many members in one body, and all members do not have the same office: we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.”

1- Grace given… to not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God has given to every man the measure of faith.

How does Grace effect my thinking?

What is the “measure of Faith” & how does it help me think soberly?

In fact, what is sober thinking?

2- Since we have many members in one body, and all members do not have the same office: we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Does this mean all Believers are somehow part of each other?

What does not having the same office mean?

Is it necessary or even practical to recognize differences?

Let’s end by going back to the beginning of this passage…

How does thinking too highly of one’s self effect others in the Faith?

Lord, Lord & Grace

WCS#47

Matthew 7:21-23 NLT “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.”

Matthew 7:21-23 NLT “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.

Ok, this is a challenging passage… what does calling Lord, Lord mean?

How can we know the Will of God?

How can or does a man, being flesh & blood, obey His Will?

Matthew 7:21-23 NLT “On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.”

What & when is Judgement Day?

Is this talking about religious folks or false devils?

Can we who live in the age of Grace, Break God’s Spiritual Laws?

Does Grace cover knowledgeable & repeated disobedience of God’s Word?

Does Psalm 119:11 still apply today? If it does; How?

“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Greatness, Service, Children & Faith

WCS#46

Mark 9:33 Jesus asked His disciples “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?” But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, “Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”

Mark 9:33 “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?” But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.

Why were the disciples hesitant to answer Jesus?

Is it wrong to want to be great?

What is greatness for a Christian?

Mark 9:33 “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, “Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”

What does it mean to be last?

What does service have to do with children?

What is the general picture message created by this 5 verse passage?

The Parables of Mark 4

WCS#45

After sharing 5 parables with the crowd, Jesus talks with His disciples in verse 33-34

Mark 4:33-34… And with many such parables He spoke the Word to the crowds as they were able to hear it. 34But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.

Mark 4:33-34… And with many such parables He spoke the word to the crowds

Why did Jesus use parables when speaking to the crowd?

Mark 4:33-34… And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. 34But without a parable He did not speak to them.

How does the Lord speak to men through the Word?

Am I able to hear Him?

What can I do to hear Him better?

Mark 4:33-34… And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. 34But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.

How & when do I (or we as a small group) get alone with God?

Do we understand the 5 parables in verses 1-32?

Should we review them?

The Word

WCS#44

2 Timothy 3:16… All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction,

What does God Breathed mean to me?

How much of my life is grounded in the Word’s instruction?

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction,

What is conviction and is it helpful to me?

How do I respond to conviction?

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

Do I welcome correction & training so I can be a better equipped Christian?

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.

What does a fully equipped man of God look like?

Am I more equipped now that I was a year ago?

Conflict Resolution

WCS#43

Matthew 18:15…If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.

16But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses.

17If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.

If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.

Do I talk with a fellow believer or do I talk to others about my brother?

Why does Jesus instruct us to talk with the offender alone?

Do I have restoration in mind or being right & getting even?

But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses.

Why try again with help from believing brothers?

How do I decide who the one or two witnesses should be?

Can I get help from pastor with this part of the restoration process?

If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.

Why three attempts to make restoration?

Does the whole church need to know or can Pastor represent the church?

What does it mean to treat them like a pagan (unbeliever)?

Why did Jesus give such clear conflict resolution instructions?

Can this really be effective today?

The World, The Father & Eternity

WCS#42

1 John 2:15-17… “15Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

15Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

What is loving the World.

Do I love the world.

16For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

How can we appreciate, beautiful things & people without having appreciation

turn to lust? Is there a line that sets borders? If so, when do we cross it?

How do I know when Father God approves of me?

17And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Can I understand or explain life in a passing world?

How can I Measure if I’m doing the Will of God?

Can I be sure I’ll abide with God forever?

Love, Lust & Pride

WCS#41

Philippians 1:9-11 “this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

1- this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent,

How do I describe love that abounds?

What is discernment?

How do I demonstrate approval of excellent things?

2- this I pray… that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Am I sincere?

Am I easily offended or quick to offend?

Does my life bear fruits that Glorify Jesus?

Turning From Worldly Pollution

WCS#40

2 Peter 2:20-21… “For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

What does “escaping the pollutions of the world mean?

How does one get “entangled again?”

What makes “entangled again” worse than being entangled?

21For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

How is it possible that it would be better to “not know the way of righteousness”

than to know it and then “turn from” it?

Most importantly, how can I prevent turning away from the “Holy

Commandment?”

Adding To My Faith

WCS#39

2 Peter 1:5-9… “giving all diligence, add to your faith…

What does it mean & how do I “diligently” add to my Faith?

add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

What do these 7 characteristics look like in practical terms?

Where am I in these 7 stages of spiritual growth?

Do they happen in sequence?

8For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Am I bearing Faith-fruit?

9For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

What do I see when I look at my inner man?

My Will, His Will

WCS#38

Luke22:40-42… “Jesus said to His disciples, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

Do I pray about temptation before I’m tempted?

41And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw,”

Ok, how do I feel when Jesus walks away & is not paying attention to me?

“and He knelt down and began to pray, 42saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

Ok these are the hard questions!

When facing a challenge, can I pray (and really mean it) “Not my will, but Your’s

be done?”

What does that even mean in a practical sense?

Fainally, how do we walk in Faith, believe for God’s favor and still be faithful in

difficult times?

Humble & Exalted

WCS#37

1 Peter 5:6-11... Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

Have I been humbled? What does exalted look like?

7casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Do I worry or have I really cast my burdens upon Jesus?

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

What does sober & diligent mean to me?

How do we resist the devil & who are the brotherhood?

But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

What does suffering for the Faith look like?

Is my Journey leading me to perfection, foundation & strength?

Finally, have I given the Lord Glory & Dominion over my life?
